Welcome to my website!
Liz and Peter have emerged from their COVID cave. We visited Portugal in March 2024 and we hope to knock many items off our bucket list before the Grim Reaper comes knocking.
This is our first blog record as we land in Argentina in March 2025

Wed 12th: Leave Toronto after a small delay and a good trip to Atlanta on Delta but we landed at a different terminal due to an electrical issue. No problem since we hopped on the internal rail service and travelled
across 2 terminal in about 5 mins.
Our tags were spotted at the airport and 3 Americans made a point of apologizing for their Presidents treatment of Canada and slamming him with no attempt to lower their voices.
Well organized airport but we were delayed again since the electrical outage had locked the Boarding gates and we were 30 minutes late takeing off – although they did have 2 hours to repair since we had a big gap between flights.
Horrible flight to Buenos but no fault of Delta. An Airbus and we were in row 54 with 280+ people on the plane. The woman at the end pulled down her overhead baggage at 1am and started rummaging for something with her cell torch wandering all over the place and in peoples faces. Then she was cackling with an attendant afterwards.
At about 3am she left out this amazing sound – loud, long, and high pitched like a badly tuned instrument. She was blowing her nose. Peter encouraged her termination with ‘For fucks sake’ in a loud voice. She responded ‘Don’t worry I’m not sick’.
Thursday 13th:
Drive met just the 2 of us at the airport and drove us to the Ker Hotel on avenue Colon [Columbus]. Nice place with Hyundai lifts [must be the best]. 2 other couples from Exottica staying there [as far as we know]. Rep from Exottica super helpful – and well prepared.
We wandered along Colon to Florida to change money from a registered back. No lie – for 3 miles through the Shopping area on Florida, to Plaza San Martin, we passed touts every 20 yards shouting ‘Cambio’ [change money].
Changed $US 60 and walked back by Leandro. Bought Empanadas C[$1.20] very average. Nap.
Walked around Puerto Madero for an hour or so checking out the restos and bars. Some very high end resto through to basic cafes – but all very busy.
We settled on one in the backstreet behind our hotel. Local food with a patio [too much smoke]. We had an empanada [$3 vs $1.2 on the street] – outstanding – and a large Pizza. Half just cheese, tomato paste and peppers; the other half with Ham. Delicious. Thick, sourdough crust. A glass of Chardonnay and 2 of Mabec. Both very good.
Friday 14th
Trip at 9am around the town as part of our ‘non-guided package’ and we raced to get there on time since our alarm was set to the wrong time – as was my PC and Liz’s cell. My cell was good [Yah crappy Samsung]
Once on the road we spent an hour dropping people [once] and picking up people [3 times] until we had formed an English speaking group. The guide was excellent and the tour very good we drove around all the areas of Buenos and stopped 3 times in near the city centre, Recoletta [beautiful parks and mansions] and Boca [the poor neighberhood].
We dropped off near plaza de Mayo and walked down Ave de Mayo to the Parliament and then back via Corrientes [the Obelisk, 20 lane highway, La Americana eatery] which is all shops, restos and bars.
La Americana [a misnomer] is a chain which serves Pizzas, empanadas [15 different types] and other pastry based food. We had a Gallega[Tuna, onions, peppers] and a Piscalaris [I made that up since we couldn’t remember ….but was spinach and egg[. They were healthy snacks for $C10.
We were approached by 2 Chinese ladies………. who liked what they saw us eating ……..from Scarborough.
